A great pocket-sized guide to a broad range of seafood!
Have you ever been confused with the name associated with a particular fish? Have you found yourself wondering whether fish on display is cool? Are you interested in trying a new seafood, but you'd rather know something about it before post your portfolio and your kitchen?
If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, you can invest in this little book, Field Guide To Seafood by Aliza Green.
The book is organized logically, with some general information on fish and fish, and then passing from more than 100 species or varieties of seafood, canned tuna with octopus eel wahoo preparation. There are many things here! And the book has a centre many photos of high-quality whole fish, fillets of fish and other seafood "sections" that you might find in a store.
One thing I really appreciated in this book is its rating of many species on conservation issues. Green recommends oceans alive seafood guide either Seafood Watch guide of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. "As our oceans becomes depleted once abundant fish, a fish choice is an important decision" (p. 1). It provides an e-mail address to him a personal question!
An example of the details provided in one of the entries:
Low Chilean sea
-Other names
-General description
-Location and season
Meat characteristics
-How to choose
-Storage
-Preparation
-A recipe suggested
-Affinity flavor
And green is not sugarcoat the conservation issues: "Less abundant far now due to overfishing, this slow growth fish decreased size." Many are captured by illegal pirate fishers who take fish that are less than eight years, until they begin to reproduce "(p._33-34)."
It is here, if I want to read about it or not! "The loggerhead sea turtle (caretta Caretta) is used to make a famous Malta stew called stuffat tal-fekruna" (p. 282). Ouch! But then, "according to the Conservatives, many fins are being cut off from live sharks in a process called cutting the fins, leading to a rapid decline in global shark populations." Fins have also been reported to have high levels of mercury toxic "(p._291)."
It is all here... the good, the bad, and... the delicious. This field guide is designed to help you make wise choices. Use a guide to monitoring of seafood as a bookmark and you have a great combination!

Great little book!
While the page size is small, book packs a LOT of information and is very well organized.
Centre of 30 or 40 pages are pictures in color, which are clear and will give an idea of what looks like each fish.
These photos are clearly and easily indexed in the body of the text.
With of many other simple icons, allowing the reader absorb a lot of information very quickly.
The text also provides detailed instructions for the preparation, cleaning and cooking fish.
I look forward to see the other compact books in this series, which include allegedly, spices, meat, cocktails and produce. Would make a pretty complete Office for one person.
